It is very important to maintain your AC unit as it will save your money on energy bills and will increase the lifespan of AC. As summers are about to hit so it is very important to pay attention to be sure your AC is working efficiently. Below we have shared some important tips that you can perform at your home to maintain your AC unit.

Shut off the power

It is important to shut off the power when you are going to work around your AC for its maintenance. Completely turn off power to the unit before you start any work.

Remove Debris

Dust and debris clog the air filters of AC which reduce the airflow and cooling effect of your AC. This makes it very important to regularly clean the AC filter and also change it after certain period of time.

Clean the Fins

Clean the fins regularly with powerful shop vacuum to remove all the outside dust and dirt. Avoid using pressure washer as pressure can damage fins.

Straighten the Fins

With time the fins get bent and can reduce the air flow efficiency. To improve the air flow through fins you can use a butter knife to straighten them. Do this carefully as extra force can damage the fins.

Clean Area around the Unit

Always clean the area around the AC unit so that it gets dirt free. In winters it is important to cover the top of the unit so that dirt does not settle inside the unit.

Level Your Outdoor A/C Condenser Unit

Always level the outdoor AC condenser unit because if it is not properly leveled then it may fail to function properly and could cause refrigerant leaks.

Clean the Evaporator Coil

Evaporator coils are easy to clean and properly cleaned coils increase the efficiency of your AC unit. These coils are very essential in cooling your room and also remove the moisture in the air that causes humidity. Evaporator coils can easily attract dust and dirt as they are typically moist from the condensation.

Clean the clogged drain line

Condensate drain line removes that moisture from the unit. Drain line is always moist and this is the reason mold and mildew can grow easily on it which further can cause the drain line to get clogged.

Change the blower filter

Air filter in your AC unit collects dust and dirt and this is why it is important to replace the filters regularly. Clean air filter helps your AC unit to work efficiently and also improve the air quality inside the house. It is important to change the air filter twice a year once just before the heating season begins and once before the cooling season begins.

Schedule a Regular Maintenance

Get your AC regularly checked by professional so that it can work efficiently and can provide you the desired cooling inside your home. You can clean your AC unit from outside as well as inside. Also check the gas level and clean the air filter during the maintenance period.
